As we enter April, we acknowledge it is Earth month and April 22nd as Earth Day. At Verity, we are conscious of the consistent increase in the carbon footprint we leave day after day, which is why we place an emphasis on protecting the planet as part of our core values. We do this not only through offering loans that encourage eco-friendly behavior, but also through organizational efforts around efficient building practices, reducing paper usage, carpooling, and more. In 2019, Verity, along with 27 other members of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values (learn more about the GABV here) pledged to track and monitor the carbon impact of our loans and investments over the next three years. This commitment aligns with the Paris Agreement goals to keep global temperature increases under control. Our newest Community Impact Report (which will be available soon) will include more information about the carbon footprint of our loan portfolio.
For us, we enjoy living on this planet which is why we take this agreement seriously. But we also want to encourage others in the community to make changes in their lives. This is why we offer loans to purchase electric vehicles, bicycles and solar panels. Plus, if a member ends up going with an electric vehicle, we offer a lower interest rate as an extra incentive. And for our solar loans, we partner with Solgen Power to offer lending in not just Washington State but in several other states as well.
