This year’s theme for Women’s History Month is, “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope”, which was set by the National Women’s History Alliance. This is a tribute towards caregivers and frontline employees during the Covid-19 pandemic, while also recognizing the many ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history.
“Nearly 80 percent of healthcare workers and 83 percent of workers who provide social assistance, including child care and emergency services, are women.”(Time’s Up Organization)[1] As we acknowledge this month, as well as year-round, to prioritize women’s voices and contributions in the world. It is also a time for acknowledging all the ways women have shaped the very world we live in.
Not only is Verity led by its first female CEO, we partner with many different organizations and nonprofits that support the growth of business ownership and entrepreneurship among women and people who identify as female. Here are a couple:
Business Impact Northwest: Part of the nonprofit’s focus is supporting female entrepreneurs and women-owned businesses, and they created the Washington Women’s Business Center as a resource for businesses just getting off the ground, as well as established businesses that could use some guidance in specific areas. Be sure to check out their annual event, “Celebrating Dreams”, which highlights women entrepreneurs in the greater Seattle area. Learn more here
GSBA: The nonprofit is Washington State’s LGBTQ+ and allied chamber of commerce. They represent over 1,300 small business, corporate, and nonprofit members who hold values of promoting equality and diversity in the workplace.
Other nonprofits in the area that help create a more equitable Seattle:
Skate Like A Girl: The nonprofit helps create a more inclusive community by promoting confidence, leadership, and social justice through skateboarding.
Seattle Foundation: The local foundation has an extensive history of supporting women-led businesses with grants like Resilience Fund, Communities of Opportunity, Voter Education Fund and Regional Census Fund. Check out the recent grantees here.
Purpose Driven Girl: A Seattle-local nonprofit whose mission is to help create a generation of young girls and women who support and empower other women, with an emphasis on BIPOC communities.
