Summer was a blast. Now it's time to settle into the chilly mornings and start thinking about the holidays. If you're hoping to save a little or a lot this season, we have a few ideas.
Check out Seattle
There's so much you can do in Seattle for free! Here are just a few things we found going in the city. Don't live near an event? That's the perfect excuse to support a local neighborhood and check out some new-to-you parts of town.
- Find the West Seattle and/or Ballard trolls
- Watch or participate in Phinney's open mic night every Wednesday at Couth Buzzard Books
- Get started on your DIY projects with the help of West Seattle's Free Tool Library
Youth activity reimbursement
If your kid has a Verity checking or savings youth account, they are eligible for an annual activity reimbursement for enrichment activities, like music lessons, sports, and summer camps. Depending on their age, your kid could get up to $40. All you have to do is show proof of paying for the activity. Then, we'll deposit the reimbursement into the youth account.
So many leaves
Normally, if you have too much yard waste that doesn't fit in your bin, it'll cost you an extra $6.85 per bag. But throughout the month of November, Seattle Public Utilities gives us all a break and provides extra yard waste pick-up for free. So, keep the drains from flooding when the rain comes pouring down and fill those big, brown yard waste bags with your leaves. The city thanks you.
Have a budget-friendly holiday
Thanksgiving will be here before you know it and with airfare prices higher than ever, a lot of us are starting new traditions that don't break the bank. Whether you stay home to host, drive to your final destination, or go to a Friendsgiving potluck, now might be a good time to figure things out with your extended family to see what makes sense in this economy. You can still schedule a Zoom call or start taking turns on who will travel this year. Maybe there's a more central, not-as-expensive location everyone can go to instead. We've also heard that some families will even pool money together, so it costs the same for everyone traveling.
But if you still want to get on a plane, Verity offers options that could help your wallet. One way to save is by opening your own savings account specifically for traveling. By putting in a little extra automatically after every paycheck, you can be prepared without having to dip into your checking. Then, there's our no annual fee Signature Rewards Visa credit card, which gives you points that you can trade in for your next trip. If it's too late to get started on a financial saving approach for this year's festivities, no worries. Come on in for one-on-one financial guidance so you can be on track for 2024's holiday season.
Safe accounts for safe travels
Speaking of traveling, we always encourage members to add a travel notification on your debit and/or credit cards. That way, any activity that happens in your new destination doesn't get flagged as fraudulent. There are a number of ways to go about this.
- Add travel notes from your digital banking profile. Log into your account, tell us your travel plans via a secure message, and we will add your notes to your account. Secure messages can take an additional business day for processing, so take that into consideration before you go on your vacation.
- Tell our live chat agent, stop into your nearest Verity branch, or call our Member Services Center at 206-440-9000.
If you're looking to save your money, we are here to help. Come on in to one of our branches to open an account or join online today.
