By September 13, 2022 Microgrant
At Verity, part of our mission is building vibrant communities, and one way we do that is through our microgrant program. These small grants are available for projects that advance community wellbeing in the Greater Seattle area. Applications are accepted year round and grants are awarded twice yearly. We recently selected our spring 2022 microgrant recipients and are excited to share about each project and organization as part of our new microgrant series.
Our sixth highlighted recipient is Unified Outreach. Founded in 1998, Unified Outreach is a unique Arts-based organization that provides programs to community centers, public and private schools, transitional housing/youth shelters, and other organizations seeking to deliver industry-level arts instruction to students in Seattle’s underserved neighborhoods. Throughout their history, Unified Outreach has provided enrichment classes, work-readiness instruction, a free public community arts magazine (you can read it online here!), and multiple free community events such as cultural celebrations, fashion showcases, talent shows, and DEI dialogue forums.
Unified Outreach’s work directly addresses educational inequities within under-served neighborhoods, particularly when it comes to the arts. They strive to break down the racial, cultural, and economic barriers many students face in engaging with the arts, providing a safe environment where students are encouraged to work together and support one another’s pursuits. Unified Outreach has helped thousands of Seattle’s students access quality arts education, and they hope to reach thousands more.
