Happy February! As we transition into the next month of 2022 and the new year, based on the lunar calendar, we would like to acknowledge the celebrations and observances.
Below is a list of celebrations and observances throughout February, as well as links to government or nonprofit websites that help provide more education on each topic.
Month-long Observances & Celebrations
- Black History Month: A time (but not the only time) to celebrate and highlight the cultural heritage of Black America. With a theme this year of Black Health & Wellness (per the ASALH), Feburary is a month to continue our learning journeys. The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) offers many ways to learn and celebrate Black History Month. Other places to continue learning include American University's Antiracism Center and The King Center. Locally, the Northwest African American Museum hosts events while the Intentionalist offers a list of Black owned businesses to support, as does the Urban League of Metropolican Seattle.
Daily Observances & Celebrations
- Tuesday, February 1st - Lunar (or Chinese) New Year: The beginning of the year based on the lunar calendar, celebrated around the world but especially in East and Southeast Asia, influenced by the Chinese lunisolar calendar. Start learning more via this NPR article.
- Monday, February 21st - Presidents' Day: A Federal and State Holiday celebrating the individuals who served as president of the US. Verity is CLOSED on Presidents' Day!
Sunday, February 20th - World Day of Social Justice: This year, the United Nations is focusing on Social Justice in the Digital Economy, as the pandemic has forever altered how we learn, work, and interact with each other in the digital space.
We acknowledge that we may not have listed every celebration and observance that is important to you and your community. If you have a suggestion for inclusion, please email feedback@veritycu.com.
