February is Black History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the profound contributions of Black Americans throughout history. At Verity, we take active steps to foster a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected. In celebration of Black History Month, Verity proudly honors the contributions, resilience, and rich history of Black community organizations. This observance reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable environment where all members of our community feel welcomed, valued, and supported.
In the spirit of Black History Month, we’d like to recognize the special work of organizations that are making a positive impact in the community.
- Black Equality Coalition (BEC) is a nonprofit organization focused on advancing equality, justice, and inclusion for African Americans and other marginalized communities.
- Resource Equity Association (REA) is a nonprofit organization that addresses financial inequities and empowers historically marginalized communities, particularly Seattle’s Black community.
- Black Arts Love is a community-based organization committed to promoting Black artists, Black culture and economic empowerment.
- Building Resilience Awareness & Variations of Excellence (BRAVE) is an innovative youth development social justice agency focused on working with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) scholars.
- South King County Discipline Coalition’s (SKCDC) mission is to end the disproportionate discipline of students of color and interrupt the school-to-prison pipeline through anti-racist organizing, leadership development, and advocacy strategies that center on parents and youth directly affected.
- Black Home Initiative (BHI) creates change and opportunity for new black homeowners in the South Seattle, South King, and North King Counties.
