As summer continues, August invites us to reflect on the power of small businesses, the resilience of diverse communities, and the importance of financial wellness. At Verity, our mission is rooted in building generational wealth, advancing racial equity, and supporting inclusive, thriving communities. Here are some of the meaningful observances and local events happening this month that align with those values.
Month-long Observances & Celebrations
National Black Business Month
August is National Black Business Month, a time to recognize and uplift Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. It’s also an opportunity to shop intentionally and support local businesses in your neighborhood.
Verity is proud to support Black-Owned Business Excellence (BOBE), a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) organization working to create a more equitable entrepreneurial ecosystem in Washington State. Since 2020, BOBE has brought together a powerful collective of BIPOC-owned businesses, community organizations, and advocates to elevate, educate, and inspire historically underserved entrepreneurs. Through our partnership, we’re helping build a future where all business owners have access to the resources, relationships, and opportunities they need to thrive.
This month, we honor the legacy and resilience of Black business owners, from the entrepreneurial spirit of the late 1700s to the economic powerhouses of today. Supporting Black businesses helps close racial wealth gaps, fosters community prosperity, and contributes to a more equitable local economy.
